April ‘must read’ children’s books

We hope you had a good Easter weekend and that your kids are finding a bit of time for reading during their holidays. If not, there’s no better time to start, as this month sees the launch of the National Year of Reading, a year-long celebration to promote reading in all its forms.

William Nicholson
William Nicholson Author of the Month is William Nicholson who was Oscar-nominated for the screenplays of Shadowlands and Gladiator. He has been cited as one of the most gifted and imaginative writers alive in the world today. Acclaim for his writing spreads far and wide. His two fantasy trilogies for teenagers are epic both in scale and intellect as well as being spectacularly entertaining – the Wind on Fire trilogy and the Noble Warriors trilogy. So why not dip into the work of this supremely talented novelist and discover something quite special?

Debut of the Month

New Voices

This month’s author from our ‘New Voices’  promotion, showcasing new talent with Walker Books, is Frenchman Timothée de Fombelle. Complimented by wonderfully detailed line drawings, this page-turner sees Toby try to stop the destruction of his world, The Great Oak Tree. 9 year olds and upwards will love it.

Books of the month

We have three brilliant Books of the Month:

Conker and Nudge is by Adria Meserve and toddlers everywhere will warm to these delightful characters. Conker is annoyed at little brother Nudge following him around all the time, but soon learns to appreciate him.

Teenage Kicks – 101 Things To Do Before You’re 16 by Clive Gifford is an original and fun book packed with suggestions of wild and interesting things teenagers can do to conquer boredom. Series of the month

Our Series of the Month is some teen sci-fi from Andrew Butcher called the Reaper Trilogy.
