Simply The Best! – The Children’s Book Events 2011
With the theme of ‘Simply the Best‘ and following the HUGE success of previous years we are super excited to announce that the Children’s Book Show 2011 is nearly upon us! In a tour around the country to coincide with Children’s Book Week 3- 9 October, and with great fun events in theatres and local schools, the best book show around is back! Give your kids direct access to some of the best writers and illustrators alive! There is a host of information on the website, explaining the theme, the events, the venues, the dates and, more importantly, how you can get involved. Simply click here and start your engines!
And planning ahead, do try to make the time to go with your children to two wonderful book festivals. 23 September – 2 October is The Bath Festival of Children’s Literature and 7 – 16 October is Book It! at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. Also don’t miss the longlisted titles for the prestigious 2011 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize with treats such as My Name is Mina, by David Almond and Mr Gum and the Secret Hideout, by Andy Stanton. If You Go Down to the Web Today … New Books in the Picture Book Picnic!
Hopefully, you’ve seen our Picture Book Picnic section showcasing the amazing picture books from Walker Books. The special section has been split into easy categories for you to find the next treat for babies and toddlers. Brand new this month is The King of Quizzical Island Digs Through the World (for ages 3+) by Gordon Snell (Maeve Binchy’s other half, you know!), which is a colourful and creature-packed adventure to the middle of the Earth and out the other side.
